(EN) AZUMINO FIREWORKS FESTIVAL
(EN) Firework festivals have long been treasured as an essential Japanese summer event. Especially in the Matsumoto area, you can often see starbursts sparkling somewhere in the summer night sky. SMR staff members who moved here from Tokyo and other regions are frequently amazed. The people of this area love their fireworks.
The Azumino Fireworks Festival is the largest in the Matsumoto area, attracting firework lovers from all around. In terms of scale it is the third largest event in the prefecture, with the feint silhouette of the Northern Alps providing a unique backdrop to the colorful display. In total 12,000 fireworks are detonated in time to music ranging from popular hits of the preceding year, to traditional Japanese festival songs.
If you have a firework display in your hometown then you may feel you have had your fill, or perhaps you have enjoyed the silent beauty of watching a display from afar… But if you have travelled all the way to Japan with an interest in experiencing Japanese festivals then we would thoroughly recommend visiting the bustling stalls of the display venue itself. The heady mix of music, fireworks exploding overhead, crowds of people, alongside the flavors and aromas of the food stalls should not be missed. The vibrant, night-market like atmosphere will not soon be forgotten.
If you wish to secure an official seat at the festival site then it is necessary to purchase a ticket in advance. Basically it is an event organized for the local population, so you would need to arrange tickets through an internationally oriented tour company, or purchase them yourself at a convenience store etc. There are several types of seats, ranging from chairs, to space on large mats on on the ground. We however, recommend the “Manpuku Seat”.
A “Manpuku Seat” is a ticket that provides a food voucher alongside a seat within the festival area where the food stalls are lined up. You’ll be able try some festival food while enjoying the fireworks, and experience the exciting atmosphere of a Japanese night festival.
Snow Monkey Resorts offer a limited one-day tour that includes this ticket.
