Photoblog: Jigokudani Monkey Park in March 2020
  • Photoblog: Jigokudani Monkey Park in March 2020

As March draws to a close it is certainly quiet in the Jigokudani Monkey Park. While the park remains open, visitor numbers are extremely low given current circumstances impacting travel to and from Japan. Despite the low visitor numbers, the monkeys continue to visit the park in big numbers. March is a happy time for them.

The warmer weather means the monkeys are more active, scurrying about and preoccupied with their important monkey business. As spring takes hold it won’t be long until the first babies of 2020 appear. Typically born from late-April until mid-June, spring is one of the best times of year to visit the monkey park and as always, we are excited to see the first baby monkey of the year!

With the troubles and concerns of the world right now, most reading this can’t visit the monkey park at this time. Nevertheless, we will keep sharing what’s happening here in anticipation of times ahead, when we can welcome back guests from all over the world. Until that time, we’d like to share some of our favourite photos of the younger monkeys over the past year. A healthy dose of adorable monkey therapy!

Prepare yourself, monkeys chewing on stuff is a bit of a running theme…

    Chewing, contemplating, inspecting and relaxing…

And finally, a little wrestling. Some of the many antics of the adorable baby monkeys!

We are looking forward to the arrival of this year’s first baby monkeys. We’ll keep you posted and hope that this post brings a little cheer. Wherever you are, stay safe and healthy.
