Option A: Traditional River Cruise: 9,800 yen / Adult

Step into the living traditions of Minami Shinshu. This option you onto the Tenryu River aboard traditional boats that have long been part of local life. After your river experience, enjoy a locally made bento featuring ingredients from the surrounding region. A delicious way to complete your introduction to this beautiful rural area.

Ride the Tenryu River: A Journey Through the Gorge

Experience the Tenryu River from the water aboard a handmade wooden boat. As you travel through the gorge, take in the surrounding mountains, forests, and dramatic river scenery from a completely different perspective. This peaceful river journey offers a memorable way to experience the landscape and the longstanding connection between the Tenryu River and the communities along its banks.

A Taste of Minami Shinshu: Locally Made Bento from Tenryukyo-do

End your journey by picking up a freshly prepared bento from Tenryukyo-do (テンリュウ堂) before boarding the train to begin your journey back to the Nakasendo. Choose between their hearty Hamburger Lunch Plate or their fresh Vegetable Lunch Lunch (a drink is not included in either option). Made with local ingredients, this bento is the perfect way to experience the flavors of Minami Shinshu and support a local business.

Option B: Seasonal Fruit Picking & Tenryu Gorge Walk: 25,000 yen / Adult

Discover the agricultural heart of Minami Shinshu! Surrounded by mountains, clean water, and fertile farmland, the region is renowned for its abundant seasonal produce. This option combines a visit to a local fruit farm with a scenic walk through the Tenryu Gorge, offering a chance to experience both the agricultural traditions and beautiful natural surroundings of the region. Pick and enjoy seasonal fruit before continuing to Sora Sanpo Tenryukyo and the Tenryu Gorge walking route.

You will not only have the opportunity to enjoy a variety of apples at the farm, but also a light lunch. Choose between their hearty Sausage Sandwich Lunch or their fresh Egg Sandwich Lunch, both come with freshly pressed apple juice. Made with local ingredients, this bento is the perfect way to expand your experience with the flavors of Minami Shinshu.

Sora Sanpo Tenryukyo: A View Above the Gorge

After your farm experience, head to Sora Sanpo Tenryukyo, a spectacular elevated walkway offering views over the Tenryu River and surrounding gorge. Take in the dramatic landscape from above before boarding your taxi again and continuing to the walking course.

Tenryu Gorge Walk: Discover the River on Foot

Continue along the gorge walking route and experience the Tenryu River from a different perspective. Surrounded by forest, rock formations, and the sounds of the river below, the walk offers a peaceful way to explore the natural beauty of central Japan.

Option B: Seasonal Fruit Picking & Tenryu Gorge Walk

Shuttle Bus Stop Locations

These self-guided experiences are connected to the Nakasendo by a local shuttle bus, making it easy to travel between the trail and Minami Shinshu. As you will be exploring independently without a guide, please make sure to keep an eye on the schedule and arrive at each pick-up and drop-off point on time.

To make your day as smooth as possible, we recommend checking the locations of your designated stops and familiarizing yourself with the shuttle bus before setting out. With a little preparation, you can travel confidently between each experience and make the most of your time in Minami Shinshu.

If you are coming from Nakatsukagawa Station:

You will find a row of four bus stops directly in front of the station entrance/exit. From the station, walk diagonally across the bus area and wait at the rightmost bus stop.

The shuttle will pick you up at 10:25 and return you to the same bus stop at 15:37.

⚠️ Please make sure you are waiting at the correct bus stop and arrive a few minutes before the scheduled pick-up time.

If you are coming from Magome:

The Magome bus stop is located just around the corner from the Magome-juku BASE Information and Visitor Center, along the main road.

Please be at the bus stop by 10:45 for your pick-up. The shuttle will return you to the same location at 15:20.

If you are coming from Hirugami Onsen:

The Hirugami Onsen bus stop is located across the street from the café-restaurant あひる (Ahiru).

Please be at the bus stop by 11:13 for your pick-up. The shuttle will return you to the same location at 14:52.

Arriving at Tenryūkyō Station:

All experiences begin with a drop-off at Tenryukyo Station, where the shuttle will arrive at 11:32.

From here, your next steps depend on the experience you have booked:

  • Tenryu River Cruise: From the bus stop, cross the bridge and follow the directions provided in your itinerary to reach the boat boarding point.
  • Fruit Picking: Meet your taxi driver directly at the Tenryukyo Station bus stop. They will take you to the fruit farm.

⚠️ Important: Return Shuttle Location⚠️
Please note that the shuttle returning to the Nakasendo area does not depart from the Tenryukyo Station bus stop. Your return shuttle departs from Iida Station, so please do not wait at Tenryukyo Station for your return journey. Be sure to follow the itinerary and allow enough time to travel to Iida Station for your scheduled departure. Also be sure to buy your JR ticket at the station if you do not have a JR Pass. The ticket will cost 240円.

Ending the excursion at Iida Station:

The return shuttle for all experiences departs from Iida Station at 14:15 sharp. To catch this shuttle, you must take the 13:25 train from Tenryukyo Station to Iida Station. There is no later train that will get you to Iida in time, so please plan your afternoon carefully.

After arriving at Iida Station, exit the station and turn right. Walk to the bus stop located in front of the Japanese pub 〆清 (Shimeshimizu).

Please arrive at the bus stop a few minutes early as the shuttle cannot wait for late passengers.
