Departing directly from central Osaka, this excursion takes you into the hills of Katano to experience the region's dramatic natural landscapes and ancient spiritual sites. Thrill-seekers can walk across Hoshi no Blanco, a breathtaking 280-meter-long suspension bridge that offers sweeping panoramic views over the forest canopy. The journey then continues to the nearby Iwafune Shrine, a sacred sanctuary famous for its massive sacred rock structures and thrilling boulder-crawling pilgrimage path.

Join us for a full-day active tour that blends breathtaking natural views, ancient rock sanctuaries, and the great outdoors. Experience the thrill of crossing Hoshi no Blanco's massive suspension bridge and navigating the mysterious boulder paths of Iwafune Shrine. Please be aware we will be walking up to 13,000 steps and will have to climb up and down many stairs, inclines, and rock formations.

Description

The tour begins at Osaka Station, where you will meet your guide before boarding a local train bound for Kisaichi Station in the quiet outskirts of Katano City. Leaving the urban bustle behind, you’ll step off into a charming rural neighborhood framing the base of the mountains and begin a scenic walk toward Hoshida Park.

The trail leads you along gentle forest paths and trickling streams as you ascend into the lush woodland canopy, culminating in your arrival at the spectacular Hoshi no Blanco—one of Japan’s largest wooden-deck suspension bridges, towering 50 meters above the forest floor.

After taking in the sweeping panoramic views across the suspension bridge, we will pause at a nearby seating area to rest our legs and enjoy our bento lunches amidst the mountain forest.

Following lunch, we will retrace our steps down through the wooded trails of Hoshida Park before heading on a trek toward the sacred site of Iwafune Jinja. The walk leads us along peaceful valley paths and quiet mountain roads framed by dense greenery and trickling streams. Upon arrival at the shrine grounds, your guide will talk about the history of the shrine and show you around the grounds. If you are lucky you may be able to go into the rock cave! It often closes due to rain but the shrine itself is still pretty interesting overall!

After enjoying the day out in the mountains it is time to head back to the city. You will hop on a bus and then train back to the starting point. A day full of history and hiking concludes back in Osaka where you can eat and drink and enjoy the best of what Osaka has to offer!

Meet-Up Location: Akatsuki Square (暁の広場), JR Osaka Station

Please meet us at Akatsuki Square, located on the first floor of the North Gate Building inside JR Osaka Station. It’s just north of the Central Exit ticket gates and near the North Central Exit.

Look for a wide open area with two escalators on either side. Do not go up the escalators—please wait on the first floor.

Coming from the Midosuji Subway Line (e.g., Namba or Shinsaibashi)

After getting off the Midosuji Subway Line, look for signs toward JR Osaka Station. This may involve going upstairs or through connecting hallways.

Enter JR Osaka Station and head toward the Central Exit.

Once you pass through the Central Exit ticket gates (or reach them if you're not using JR lines), walk straight ahead (north) toward Yodobashi Camera.

You’ll arrive at Akatsuki Square, which is on the first floor with escalators on each side.
