SHIGA KOGEN

As Japan’s largest ski resort, it’s important to choose carefully when booking your accommodation. Visitors wanting to stay in Shiga Kogen have accommodation options spread across the resort including ski in/out options, while many people also choose to stay in the valley below the resort in the hot spring towns of Kanbayashi Onsen, Shibu Onsen and Yudanaka Onsen – all within 25 to 30-minutes drive of Shiga Kogen’s lowest ski areas. NOZAWA ONSEN

Accommodation at Nozawa Onsen is mostly located in and around the village centre. A hot spring town with a history dating back more than 1000 years, visitors are spoiled for choice when it comes to choosing their accommodation with many established hotels and an increasing number of high-end options popping-up each season including private/self-contained luxury accommodation. Of course as an ‘onsen’ (hot spring) town, Nozawa Onsen has its share of ‘ryokan’ (traditional guesthouses) with their own in-house hot springs along with multiple public onsen dotted through the town. Offering lots of restaurants, bars, nightlife and services for English and other foreign language-speakers, Nozawa Onsen is as popular for what’s on offer off the slopes as it is for what’s on offer on the mountain. HAKUBA

Hakuba Valley is an expansive area including ten resorts. Among those 10, Hakuba Happo One is the most central, largest and popular resort with the greatest concentration of accommodation, restaurants and nightlife surrounding Happo One located in the central village and Wadano area, and a little further to the south in Echoland.
The popular joint resort of Hakuba Goryu/47 is located around 15-minutes drive to the south the Hakuba village, while Hakuba Iwatake – less than 10-minutes drive – and Hakuba Tsugaike – 15 to 20-minutes drive – are located to the north. The joint resorts of Hakuba Cortina/Norikura are the most northern resorts in Hakuba Valley, around 20 to 25-minutes drive from Hakuba village. Click here for Accommodation listings in Hakuba.

KARUIZAWA

Accommodation near the Karuizawa Snow Resort is mostly located centrally near the station. As one of the premier destinations for a country getaway by both Japanese royalty and international celebrities, visitors to this area can find no shortage of established hotels and high-end accommodation options. As the area located near the snow resort and the station is quite developed, there are not many options within this area that are Japanese-style ryokans, but most accommodations offer convenience, charm, and plenty of amenities.
