Jinpyokaku Honten: Timeless Elegance & Historic Hospitality

Established in 1901, Jinpyokaku Honten is a sanctuary of Japanese tradition and refined luxury. Nestled in the serene forest of Kanbayashi Onsen, our historic ryokan has long been a favored retreat for the Japanese Imperial Family and legendary literary figures such as Natsume Soseki and Kawabata Yasunari. With only six exclusive rooms, we offer an intimate atmosphere where the whispers of history meet the pinnacle of modern comfort.

The Closest Stay to the Snow Monkeys

Located at the very trailhead of the Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park, Jinpyokaku is the ideal base for your winter journey. After a short, scenic walk to witness the famous macaques, return to the warmth of our hearth and the healing waters of our natural hot springs.

Accommodation & Onsen

Each of our six rooms is meticulously designed with a blend of classic Japanese aesthetics and contemporary amenities.

  • Private Sanctuary: Most rooms feature their own private outdoor or indoor hot spring baths, allowing you to soak in tranquility while overlooking the seasonal beauty of the forest.
  • Healing Waters: Indulge in our communal indoor and outdoor baths, where 100% natural, free-flowing thermal water rejuvenates the body and soul. For a unique experience, explore our historic mixed-gender outdoor bath (bathing wraps provided for women).

Dining Experience

We take pride in serving exquisite "Kaiseki" (multi-course) cuisine, crafted from the finest seasonal ingredients of the Shinshu region, including premium Shinshu Beef and locally grown rice.

Where is the Kanbayashi Hotel Jinpyokaku?

Located about 35 km (around 50 minutes) northeast of central Nagano City, Jinpyokaku Honten is the closest traditional onsen ryokan to the Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park—making it an ideal base for one of Japan’s most iconic sightseeing experiences.

The ryokan offers spacious, authentic Japanese-style accommodations, where guests can enjoy the charm and tranquility of a classic onsen retreat. Its open-air baths, surrounded by the changing colors of all four seasons, are a particular highlight, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in nature’s beauty throughout the year.

Convenient not only for visiting the Snow Monkey Park but also for accessing the highland ski resort of Shiga Kogen, Jinpyokaku Honten provides a warm welcome, natural hot spring baths, and a memorable stay in every season.

How to Get to Jinpyokaku

Nagaden-Bus-Express-Nagano-Station

When heading to the hotel using public transport, it will be easiest to do so from Nagano Station, from where an express bus runs directly to the Snow Monkey Park Bus Stop. Alternatively, you can take the Nagano Dentetsu railway to Yudanaka Station – the nearest train station to the restaurant and Monkey Park – and from there, take a local bus to the Snow Monkey Park Bus Stop. Both options take around 50 to 55-minutes in total to reach the hotel. From the bus stop, it is only a very short walk up the hill in the direction of the Monkey Park before you will arrive at the Jinpyokaku. Coming from Tokyo, Nagano Station can be easily and quickly reached using the Shinkansen (bullet train), and from there the journey is as described above. The Jinpyikaku is located in the small hot spring village of Kanbayashi Onsen, which itself is located in the wider region of Yamanouchi – a region including the park, multiple hot spring villages, Shiga Kogen Ski Resort, the smaller ski resorts of Kita-Shiga Kogen and Joshinetsu Kogen National Park.
