Ikaho Onsen Area

Known for its iron-rich waters, the main feature of Ikaho Onsen is a 300 metre long stone staircase which acts as the main thoroughfare through the town. Either side of the street, traditional guesthouses, shops, restaurants and old-fashioned games parlours create a quaint atmosphere typical of an old hot spring town. The town is home to many hotels and guesthouses catering to all tastes and budgets. Due to the iron content of the water, it takes on a dark brown colour when it comes in contact with the air.
