Located in the heart of Joshinetsu Kogen National Park, Hotel Grand Phenix Okushiga is committed to protecting the environment we call home. Through our sustainability efforts, we strive to provide a travel experience that respects nature while ensuring your comfort.

Renewable Energy (Non-Fossil Certificate)
Starting this season, we have introduced the use of Non-Fossil Certificates, and now utilize electricity derived from renewable energy sources. We support renewable energy markets through certified clean energy purchases, helping drive demand for clean power and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
This initiative reflects our commitment to environmental responsibility. We aim to contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and support the transition to a more sustainable society.
What is a Non-Fossil Certificate?
A Non-Fossil Certificate is a government-issued environmental value credit in Japan that certifies electricity was generated from non-fossil fuel sources: including solar, wind, hydro, biomass, and nuclear energy.
Even though electricity from all sources is mixed in the grid, purchasing these certificates allows businesses to claim the environmental benefits of clean energy, supporting a low-carbon future.
Improving Energy Self-Sufficiency
Japan’s energy self-sufficiency rate in FY2021 was just 13.3%, relatively low compared to other nations. Most fossil fuels (oil, coal, natural gas) are imported, making Japan highly energy dependent. To improve this, promoting energy conservation and transitioning to renewable energy sources is essential.
At Hotel Grand Phenix Okushiga, we are proud to take part in this transition.
By introducing Non-Fossil Certificates, we are using electricity supported by certified renewable energy, and effectively reducing our CO₂ emissions, one step closer to a sustainable future.
Other Environmental Initiatives
Heat Pump Boiler
We were quick to adopt boilers that utilize heat pump technology, an energy-efficient and low-emission system, which efficiently captures thermal energy from air or underground sources to generate steam.

EV Car Sharing
We offer EV car sharing services. Enjoy comfortable and sustainable travel in environmentally friendly electric vehicles.

Audi Destination Charger
An Audi Destination Charger has been installed. Guests with EVs or plug-in hybrids can use this dedicated charger during their stay, supporting a smart and convenient EV lifestyle.

Eco-Friendly Open-Air Bath
We offer an open-air bath that uses natural mineral spring water, designed to be gentle on both the body and the environment.
The Okushiga Gorge is home to a rare native species of char (iwana), and to protect this delicate ecosystem, we do not discharge any bathwater into the river.
Iwana (white-spotted char), a native freshwater fish species unique to Japan’s mountain streams.

In consideration of the local ecosystem, we have created a unique open-air bath experience that harmonizes with nature.
Sustainable Guest Amenities and Services
Recyclable Amenities
We use eco-friendly materials throughout the hotel to help reduce single-use waste and lessen our environmental impact.

Mountain Resort Wear “ZUICA”
Designed with the concept of “supporting human health and protecting the planet,” our original ZUICA resort wear is made using recycled materials.
