Winter Tours in Shiga Kogen & Nagano
Operating all year round and locally-based, we are happy to offer a variety of group tours each winter. All tours include pickup options in Nagano City and Hakuba, starting with the following two tours to Shiga Kogen:
Snow Monkeys & Snow Fun in Shiga Kogen / December to March*
This exciting one-day tour combines a visit to the world-famous Snow Monkeys of Jigokudani with morning of fun in the deep powder snow of Shiga Kogen – Japan’s largest ski resort! Including lunch and led by a locally-based, English-speaking guide, this tour follows a simple equation: snow monkeys + lots more snow = big fun in Shiga Kogen!
Snow Monkeys & Snowmobiling in Shiga Kogen / December to March*
This enjoyable one-day tour combines a visit to the world famous Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park with lunch and morning snowmobiling in Japan’s largest mountain resort, Shiga Kogen. Led by an English-speaking guide and certified snowmobile instructor, this tour highlights the best of Nagano in winter and excitement of Japan’s biggest and best resort!
In addition to these popular tours to Shiga Kogen, the following tours don’t head to Shiga but are available each winter:
Snow Monkeys, Zenko-ji Temple & Sake / Everyday
Take in some of the highlights of Nagano with this engaging tour starting with a visit to Zenko-ji Temple – one of the oldest and most important Buddhist temples in Japan – followed by sake tasting and lunch at a nearby restaurant.
It’s then time to head to the Snow Monkey Park and its world-famous hot spring-bathing monkeys! All led by a locally-based English-speaking guide, this tour is a great way to see the best that Nagano has to offer.
Snow Monkeys & Zenko-ji Winter Illumination / December*
Combining a visit to Nagano’s world-famous Snow Monkey Park and evening exploration of the Zenko-ji Illumination Festival, this enjoyable 1-day tour captures the magic of Nagano of in winter.
Including lunch and dinner at two favorite Nagano restaurants – Hotaru-tei and Monzen Terrace Enya – this is one tour rich in the festive spirit of winter!

Combining a visit to Nagano’s world-famous Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park and evening exploration of the Zenko-ji Tomyo Lantern Festival, this enjoyable 1-day tour marks the midpoint of winter and illuminates Nagano’s ancient heart.
Including lunch and dinner at two favorite Nagano restaurants – Hotaru-tei and Monzen Terrace Enya – this tour brings warmth and light into the midst of winter.

From Hakuba & Nagano: Nozawa Fire Festival & Snow Monkey / January 15th
In the midst Nagano’s cold white winter, there is one festival that is sure to set things alight and burn bright into the night! The Nozawa Onsen ‘Dosojin Matsuri’ is one of Japan’s three great fire festivals, taking place every January in the popular ski resort village.
This tour takes to you to and from Nozawa Onsen to enjoy one of the Nagano’s most popular festivals in combination with an earlier visit to the world-famous Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park and dinner to energize for the festivities to come! Including alternate pick-up points in Hakuba and Nagano City, this tour will live long in the memory, and long after the fire has burnt away!
Through winter, all tours can be joined from Nagano City or Hakuba, with the option of starting at one point and ending at another. Including luggage transport, this is a great way to maximise use of your time as you move between Nagano and its ski resorts. While none of our group tours end in Shiga Kogen, it may be possible to arrange transport to the resort at the end of the day.
