Hiking The Lake Course

This trekking course shows off the vast beauty of the Shigakogen Highlands with the main selling point being stunning Onuma-ike Lake. The trail takes you through picturesque forests and past lakes like Shibuike and Yonjyuhachi. The emerald green Onuma-ike Lake has a red Japanese shrine gate (called “torii” in Japanese) which stands in the water, and is surrounded by beautiful 2000m high mountains. The view is an absolute must-see when in the area.

The hiking trail around the lake is 9.6 kilometers long with an elevation of 360 meters. It usually takes 3:30 hours to complete the course.

Please be warned that Shiga Kogen is an inhabited area of bears. It is recommended to bring a bear bell with you.
