Getting To & Around Matsushiro

Most visitors heading to Matsushiro will need to do so via Nagano Station. Accessible using a public from the station, it takes around 30 to 35 minutes to reach Matsushiro. For full details, please refer to our ‘How to Get to Matsushiro’ page.

Disembarking at the Old Matsushiro Station Bus Stop you will see the old railway building to your left and the backside of Matsushiro Castle Park to your right – approximately a 5 minute walk.

To reach the main part of town, you can walk from the castle or straight from the bus stop. To do so, you will see a road immediately to your left or another in front of you, also heading left. Either road will take  you another road – only 1 or 2 minutes walk – where you should turn right and then walk straight. Go straight ahead until you see the Tourist Information Center on your left – only 5 minutes walk from the bus top.

Tourist Information Center is located next to the large Sanada Treasures Museum, so you really can’t miss it. Open daily from 09:00 to 17:00, friendly staff are on-hand to assist with your enquiries with rental bicycles available from 09:00 to 16:00. The tourist center has 18 adult and 3 kids bicycles, costing JPY500 per person – a great way to explore the town.
