The Nohi Bus Company operates express bus services between Takayama and several major cities as well as the onsen village of Hirayu and the alpine wonderland of Kamikochi. Tickets for all buses can be purchased at the Takayama Nohi Bus Center ( Takayama Bus Terminal ), next to Takayama Station.
The bus for Hirayu Onsen departs from Bus Stop 5 at the Takayama Bus Terminal. The trip takes about an hour.
Buses for Kamikochi depart from Bus Stop 2 outside the Hirayu Bus Terminal. The ride to Kamikochi takes 25 minutes.

Buses between Takayama and Hirayu Onsen operate regularly throughout the day, with no advance reservations required. Passengers travelling onwards to Kamikochi must transfer at Hirayu Onsen, including on the return journey.
The one-way fare from Takayama to Kamikochi, including the transfer at Hirayu Onsen, is ¥3,000 for adults and ¥1,500 for children (ages 6-12). Return tickets cost ¥5,800 for adults and ¥2,900 for children. For those travelling only between Hirayu Onsen and Kamikochi, the fare is ¥1,500 one-way, or ¥2,800 return for adults.
Keep in mind that if you are planning to visit Kamikochi and then continue on to Matsumoto you must buy two separate tickets, one for Kamikochi at the Takayama Nohi Bus Center and one for Matsumoto at the Kamikochi Bus Terminal.
As a side note, some buses departing Takayama for Matsumoto are operated by the Alpico Bus Company, based in Matsumoto.

Buying Bus Tickets
Tickets for buses travelling from Takayama to Hirayu Onsen and Kamikochi can be purchased at the ticket counter or vending machines inside the Takayama Nohi Bus Center. These services do not require advance reservations, but passengers should purchase their tickets before boarding.
Passengers boarding at Hirayu Onsen should also purchase tickets at the terminal before departure. If the ticket counter or vending machines are closed, payment can be made on board.
Please note that buses travelling directly between Takayama and Matsumoto operate under different ticketing arrangements and require advance reservations. These can be made through Nohi Bus or the official online reservation service.
