Kanazawa: Higashi Chaya District & Asano River Area

Known for its traditional teahouses and historic streetscape, the Higashi Chaya District of Kanazawa is a popular destination for many travellers. Located on the eastern-side of Asano River, around 25 to 30-minutes walk from Kanazawa Station, the area also boasts an excellent range of accommodation – mostly ‘ryokan’ (traditional guesthouses) along with small, family-run hotels and self-contained apartments.

Travelers wanting to enjoy a traditional guesthouse should consider this area as they are dotted around the area surrounding Higashi Chaya and along the streets following Asano River. In addition, there are some excellent restaurants in the area that offer some of Kanazawa’s best dining experiences. Less convenient than staying in the area around Kanazawa Station – where you will find many large, Western-style hotels – choosing accommodation in this area offers a more traditional experience and within 20 to 30-minutes walk the Kenrokuen Garden and Kanazawa Castle Park area.
