MOA Museum of Art

Located in a beautiful location in Atami, Shizouka – around two hours from Tokyo – the MOA Museum of Art holds around 3500 traditional Japanese works of art including three registered ‘National Treasures’.

Most famously, the museum holds a two-fold painted screen by renowned artist, Ogata Korin. Depicting a red and a white plum blossom tree separated by a river, the painting is known for its technique and vivid colour – considered a masterpiece of Japanese art. One of three artworks deemed ‘National Treasures’ within the collection, MOA also holds around sixty-five objects designated ‘Important Cultural Assets’ and collectively is one of Japan’s most impressive and significant collections.

The museum includes a restaurant, patisserie, café and teahouse giving visitors lots of reasons to take their time and enjoy the beautiful setting of the museum. In short, MOA Museum of Art is an ideal destination for anyone wanting to experience the exquisite technique and beauty of traditional Japanese and Chinese art away from the crowds and congestion of Tokyo.
