Takahashi Setsuro Art Museum

Takahashi Setsuro Art Museum

Housed in a tranquil modern building, the museum is dedicated to the work of Takahaashi Setsuro, an acclaimed lacquer artist. Setsuro applied traditional techniques in creating dynamic and often abstract motifs including heavily stylised landscapes.

Adjacent to the main and distinctly modern modern museum, Setsuro’s home – a beautiful traditional ‘kominka’ – remains open to public and displays works by other local artists. Particularly beautiful in autumn, lacquer workshops are available for anyone wishing to try their hand at the beautiful artform – takes around 2 hours / JPY1100.  Advanced bookings are required for workshops.
