The city of Nagoya has a strong personality, shaped by bold food, proud history, and a deep connection to craftsmanship and innovation.
Due to its central location and amazing connectivity, many travelers spend their time in Nagoya taking day trips to popular destinations throughout Central Japan. And while that is certainly an excellent way to experience the region, two days in Nagoya itself can feel surprisingly full in the best way.
Our recommended two-day itinerary is designed to help you experience Nagoya through food and technology, providing insight into how the city lives, works, and continues to evolve. And with the help of a knowledgeable guide, you can move through the city with confidence while gaining insight that would be difficult to piece together on your own.
Day 1: Eat Like a Local in Nagoya

Start: 8:00 AM — Nagoya Station
The best way to understand any location is through its food, and Nagoya is no exception. The city takes pride in its local cuisine, known as "Nagoya Meshi," which is rich, flavorful, and deeply satisfying. These are dishes created for working class folk, shaped by local ingredients and a culture that values comfort and bold taste.

On our tour, your day begins with a short walk to Yanagibashi Central Fish Market. This is a working market, busy and energetic, where chefs and vendors prepare for the day ahead. You will see fresh seafood, including impressive tuna cuts, being handled with precision. You will also see all manner of chefs, fishmongers, and all their tools, including knives so large they feel almost theatrical.

From there, you head into Endoji Shopping Street, a charming covered arcade that feels like stepping into a different era. Here, you experience one of Nagoya’s most beloved traditions: the “morning service” where your breakfast comes free with your coffee.

Next comes one of Nagoya’s most iconic landmarks, Nagoya Castle. The grounds are expansive, and the castle keep is striking, but the real highlight is Honmaru Palace. As you move through its rooms, the interiors become more elaborate, filled with gold accents and detailed artwork.

Near the castle, you’ll get a chance to try tebasaki, Nagoya’s famous chicken wings. Made from Nagoya’s special cochin chicken, the "wagyu of chicken," they are crispy, peppery, and slightly sweet. And once you try them, it becomes clear why they are such a local favorite.

The afternoon takes you through Hisaya Odori Park, a lively public space where you can relax, take photos, or simply enjoy the pace of the city. From there, you will continue to Osu Shopping District, one of the most vibrant areas in Nagoya.

Osu is full of personality. You will find everything from street food stalls to vintage shops and electronics stores. It is the perfect place to keep exploring Nagoya’s food culture. Here, you can sample tenmusu, a compact rice ball with crispy tempura inside, followed by miso-katsu, a rich and flavorful pork cutlet topped with a thick red miso sauce.
By the end of the day, you will have tried several local specialties while also seeing key parts of the city. More importantly, you will feel comfortable navigating Nagoya’s food scene on your own, thanks to the insight and recommendations from your guide.

Day 2: Discover Nagoya’s Industrial Spirit

Start: 9:00 AM — Nagoya Station
On your second day, the focus shifts from food to innovation. Nagoya has long been one of Japan’s most important industrial centers. Many globally recognized companies began here, and their influence continues to shape the city today.

Your first stop is the Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology. This museum offers a fascinating look at how Toyota began, starting with textile machinery before moving into automobiles. As you walk through the exhibits, you see real machines in action and learn how production methods have changed over time. Your guide helps explain what you are seeing, making the experience much more engaging and easier to follow.

From there, you walk to Noritake Garden. The atmosphere here is calm and beautifully designed, offering a nice contrast to the industrial setting of the previous stop. Noritake is known around the world for its fine porcelain, and you can watch artisans at work as they create detailed pieces by hand. It is a great place to slow down, enjoy the surroundings, and even have lunch served on Noritake tableware.

In the afternoon, you head out to the Toyota Automobile Museum. But getting there includes a ride on Japan’s magnetic levitation train, which is an experience in itself.

The Toyota Automobile Museum features an impressive collection of cars from around the world, covering everything from early models to modern designs. It is easy to spend time here, especially with a guide who can point out details and share stories that bring the exhibits to life.
By the time you return to Nagoya Station, you will have seen a completely different side of the city from the day before.
