
The JR Jōhana Line is a local railway line in Toyama Prefecture, Japan, that connects Takaoka Station with Jōhana Station. It passes through a mix of urban and rural landscapes, with notable stops near tourist attractions like the Zuiryū-ji Temple, the Tonami Tulip Festival and the historic streets of Johana.
The Johana Line, operated by JR West, runs a daily service with trains departing approximately hourly. The first train from Takaoka Station typically departs at 23:07 a.m., while the last train leaves at 10:52 p.m. The entire journey takes about 55 minutes, connecting Takaoka and Shin-Takaoka Station with Johana Station and passes through fourteen stations in total.
The major stations on the line are the termini, Takaoka and Johana and the shinkansen stop, Shin-Takaoka. There is a notable stop at Tonami Station, which hosts a tulip festival every year at the end of April to the beginning of May. Other key stations include Fukumitsu, a traditional town, and Fukuno.

Interesting Sights Along the Line

-- Takaoka Station
Takaoka Station serves as a central hub for exploring the city's rich history and culture. From here, you can easily walk to the Takaoka Great Buddha, a magnificent 16-meter-tall bronze statue of the Great Buddha, which is considered one of Japan's three great Buddha statues. The bronze for the statue as well as other metals originally came from the metalworking area of Kanayamachi. You can even try making something yourself inside of a shop that has been in existence for over one hundred years.
-- Shin-Takaoka Station
Shin-Takaoka Station serves as a gateway to the Takaoka area as a stop on the Hokuriku Shinkansen. While the station itself is a contemporary building, its location provides convenient access to local attractions such as the National Treasure Zuiryū-ji Temple.
-- Tonami Station
At Tonami Station, visitors can see a large tulip statue and a "Yotaka" float, both representing the city's famous festivals. The station serves as a convenient starting point for exploring the Tonami Tulip Fair grounds and the Tonami Yotaka Festival, which showcase these local traditions.
-- Fukumitsu Station
Fukumitsu is a small town with access to several cultural attractions, including the Fukumitsu Art Museum and the Shiko Munakata Memorial Hall, dedicated to the famous woodblock print artist who lived in the area. Visitors can also explore nearby historical sites like the Seikaen Castle Ruins and the Kotokuji Temple.

Jōhana Station is the gateway to the historic town of Jōhana, known for its well-preserved traditional streets and old merchant houses. Visitors can explore sights such as the Jōhana Betsuin Zuisenji Temple, famous for its grand main hall, and the Jōhana Gion Festival, which features ornate parade floats and is on the UNESCO Intanglible Cultural Heritage list.
