Japan Ukiyo-e Museum

The Japan Ukiyo-e Museum is said to boast the world’s largest collection of ‘ukiyo-e’ (woodblock print) artworks – more than 100,000 —pieces collected by the local Sakai family. While the collection is very large, the museum itself is small, requiring the collection to be rotated on a regular basis so that visitors have the opportunity to view the majority of artworks over time. English information is very limited but the artworks on display provide a glimpse of the Japan of old and therefore well-worth a visit when spending a day or two in Matsumoto.
