This package tour takes the hassle out of arranging your winter adventure in Nagano by including transport to and from Japan’s largest ski resort, Shiga Kogen, accommodation in the central village (including all breakfasts and first nights dinner), and all-mountain lift tickets, along with a traditional Japanese dining experience a renowned local restaurant, and a guided visit to the world-famous Snow Monkey Park. With optional additions including ski/snowboard rental or English ski/snowboard lessons, we have all bases covered in one convenient package tour! All you need to do is bring yourself to JR Nagano Station and we’ll take it from there!

The minimum participant age for this tour is 6 years old.

As host of the 1998 Winter Olympics, Nagano is home to more than 70 independent ski resorts and some of the deepest powder in the world! The biggest of those resorts is Shiga Kogen, covering more than 600ha of terrain across 18 ski areas including Japan’s highest chair-lifted ski run at 2307 meters. As the closest ski resort to the world-famous Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park, Shiga Kogen is known for its beauty, expansive terrain, and having the best powder in Nagano!

Shiga is actually comprised of 18 ski areas – some large, some small – interconnected with more than 50 chairlifts and gondolas, offering skiers and snowboarders the greatest expanse of interconnected terrain in Japan. This makes Shiga Kogen the perfect destination for international visitors looking for a resort with enough to keep them entertained for a longer visit!

You will be met at JR Nagano Station by a Snow Monkey Resorts guide, who will have you board the bus and get you on your way toward Shiga, but first stopping at Nagano’s world-famous Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park.

Bathing Baby Monkey in a Hot Spring

Located at the base of Shiga Kogen, the park is home to the only troop of monkeys in the world known to bathe in hot springs, the monkeys of Jigokudani are truly unique and a must-see for any winter visitor to Nagano.

You will be guided around the park and from there, taken to lunch at a nearby restaurant for a warming winters lunch. Nagano is one of Japan’s primary agricultural regions so there’s no better place to enjoy ‘washoku’ (Japanese cuisine), before it’s time to head high above as you head to Japan’s largest resort, Shiga Kogen.

Accommodation for your stay in Shiga is located in the resort’s most central area, Ichinose Village. Only minutes walk from the central ski runs, shuttle bus stops (to head directly to the resort’s more remote areas), and Shiga’s largest concentration of restaurants and bars, you will be ideally positioned to get the most out of your stay!

Arriving around 14:45 your guide will assist you with check-in and orientation at the hotel, collection of your lift passes, arranging rental gear (if required), and answer any questions you have before saying goodbye and leaving you to get your bearings in the village, with dinner on the first night included at your hotel.

Hotel Mount Shiga Bar

From the second day onwards it’s time to hit the mountain! All packages include all-mountain passes covering each full day of your stay in Shiga. With 79 courses offering Japan’s largest interconnected expanse of terrain, Shiga gives you plenty to explore with ski runs suitable for anyone from newbies to intermediate and advanced skiers and snowboarders. Your second day ends with another highlight, dinner at Hotaru-tei – one of the region’s best restaurants. Housed in a 160 year old traditional mansion, Hotaru-tei is acclaimed for its meal service which is only enhanced by the beautiful and historic surroundings of the restaurant.

Higashitate-yama shiga kogen

On the fourth day you will check-out of your hotel in the morning but then free to enjoy your final day on the mountain, with the hotel holding your luggage. Once you have got those final runs in, you are welcome to return to the hotel and use the in-house onsen (hot spring) one last time, to refresh and change before collecting your luggage and departing the resort.

Your return journey to JR Nagano Station is by express bus. You will be provided a ticket on Day 1 and simply need to get yourself to the nearby express bus stop on your final day, and then you’ll be transported directly back to where you started, JR Nagano Station.

Nagaden Bus Large Size

While you will not be accompanied by a guide on your return journey, it is very straight-forward and you will be provided all the information you need – including the bus timetable, bus stop location, and ticket – to get yourself on the bus and back to Nagano.
