The Waterfalls Of Matsukawa Valley

The Waterfalls Of Matsukawa Valley

Known for its natural beauty, the mountains and steep ravines of Matsukawa Valley are dissected by rivers and streams that lead to several famous waterfalls. Most notably, the Kaminaridaki, Shichimi-otaki and Yataki waterfalls are popular sightseeing destinations for visitors looking to enjoy the tranquility of the surrounding landscape, typified by the cascading waters of the falls.

The Yataki waterfall is a particularly impressive sight, falling 180 meters into the ravine below. Observation stations are well-positioned to give visitors tremendous views of the waterfalls, with several trails allowing you to journey closer including beneath the overhand of Kaminaridaki or ‘The Lightning Falls’.

Parking lots, observation decks, and trails are open to the public only outside of winter – from early May until the end of November –  however visitors to the region in winter may witness the enchanting sight of waterfalls frozen in motion from further afield.
