It’s summer! It’s getting hot in the Snow Monkey area (though still relatively cool compared to places like Tokyo and Kyoto) and the Jigokudani monkeys are feeling the arrival of summer. They’ve taken to lying in the shade, finding the coolest places to hide from the sun. Especially the rocks next to the river that flows through the park are a popular relaxation spot.
Another place that seem to make the monkeys comfortable is in between the abundant green leaves. The picture below shows one of the younger monkeys sitting in the leaves close to the hot spring, eating an occasional bug that walks by.
The next picture shows one of this year’s babies learning to climb. He/she still stays close to the mother but is actively trying to train his/her muscles and gain independence.
Interested in a visit to the Jigokudani Monkey Park? The park is open throughout the year – opening hours in the summer season are from 8:30 – 17:00. Please come and meet the Jigokudani Monkeys!
If you are also interested in visiting the snow monkeys together with other attractions in Nagano, we provide you with a variety of seasonal tours.
